Committee & Governance

The Management Committee

The management of the Club is the responsibility of the Management Committee whose members are elected annually at the Club AGM. This means that Stockport Metro is run by volunteers – ordinary members who donate their time and expertise free of charge – in conjunction with the Club coaching staff and Stockport Sports Trust.

The Management Committee consists of the Life Members, the Chief Coach of the Stockport Sports Trust Swimming Coaching Scheme, two further representatives of the Stockport Sports Trust, and ten members of Stockport Metro Swimming Club. The ten members are proposed, seconded and elected by ballot at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee meets once a month.

Committee Roles

The roles of the officers of the club are outlined below:

The Chairperson is responsible for ensuring that the Club is well managed and run efficiently. He/she sets the agenda for and chairs all meetings of the club committee (including AGMs) and guides members through the agenda, as well as representing the Club at other meetings. The Chairperson provides leadership and support/guidance to club members where necessary, oversees committee decisions and holds the casting vote. Other duties include acting as signatory on club cheques, authorizing expenditure, leading the Disciplinary Committee, and preparing/presenting the annual report for the AGM.

The Club Secretary acts as principal administrative officer for the club and is the first point of contact for general correspondence. He/she assists the Chairperson in the preparation of the Annual report, acts as a signatory on cheques, and is the main point of contact for regional and national ASA matters.

The Membership Secretary supports new members of the Club and maintains up to date records of club membership.

The Competition Secretary organises the Club’s competition commitments in conjunction with the Head Coach and Management Committee.

The Treasurer is responsible for collating a record of accounts and monitoring the finances of the Club to ensure that the Club remains solvent.

The Welfare Officer ensures that the club operates a safe, effective and child friendly environment that promotes good practice in line with the club’s Child Protection policy.

The Press/Publicity Officer is responsible for raising the profile of club activities to club members, the media and the local community.

The Fundraising/Sponsorship Officer is responsible for actively seeking sponsorship for the club and identifying and planning fundraising events.

The Social Secretary organises social events for the relevant members of the club as directed / approved by the committee.

The Trophy Trustee organises the awards for club competitions.

The Merchandising Officer is responsible for the swim shop and related merchandising activities.

The Volunteer Coordinator leads the recruitment, retention and recognition of club volunteers.

Any parent members interested in helping out with any of these volunteer roles should contact the Club Secretary.
